Carmel has had vast experience in many contexts including hospitals, community health, Tresillian Family Care Centre, non-government organisations, mental health and disabilities.
Carmel has a Bachelor of Health Science (Nur.), with graduate and postgraduate studies in psychology and Family Therapy. Carmel is also an associate member of the Australian Psychological Society.
During her time as a tertiary student, Carmel was student representative on the Board of Studies at UWS Hawkesbury and likewise with the Institute of Counselling. As well, Carmel was am executive member of Macquarie University Psychological Society and a member of the advisory committee of 'Holyoak', NSW Institute of Alcohol and Addictions.
While Carmel takes a particular interest in ongoing education, Carmel's interests have extended beyond the academic area. She has a special interest in social justice and community development issues. She volunteers with organisations that offer hope and help to marginalised and disadvantaged people in Sydney. She is also involved in the Ankali project, offering emotional support to Aids sufferers.

Carmel has experience with various methods of therapy. However, Carmel prefers to use a strengths based approach as it empowers clients in the resolution of their difficulties through a focus on the solution rather than the problem. Carmel is also interested in a non-pathology approach to therapy.
